Jeff Moats Explains Why He Shouldn’t Be Alive

I’ve worked in the Brazilian Amazon for over 25 years, the last ten of which have been focused on botanical research. Camu Camu fruit came to my attention through several Brazilian and International researchers. On Sunday April 2011

In April 2011 I was involved in an accident that resulted in a near fatal traumatic brain injury.

I was rushed to the nearest hospital and into an operating room where I underwent four hours of brain surgery, including having to surgically remove 8% of my brain. Ten titanium plates were needed to repair my shattered skull. After surgery I was moved to ICU and given a no greater than 1% chance of surviving the night.

My neurosurgeon later told me that in all his years as a surgeon he had never seen anyone survive the extent of head trauma I arrived with much less making it to a hospital alive.

Discharge!

Upon discharge, my neurosurgeon informed me that my quality of life would never be the same again. I was suddenly sentenced to a life of intense migraine headache pain coupled with significant seizure episodes due to the extensive brain trauma I had sustained and brain matter dissected.

It’s impossible to articulate or describe the depth and intensity of the pain I felt every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month. I lived 24/7 with unforgiving, relentless inescapable pain.

I was discharged on numerous opioid medications for pain management as well as a brutal anti-seizure medication. Desperate to escape the relentless pain, I became tempted to double, even triple my pain medications, which could have been fatal.

Fearing temptation and without my doctor's consent or knowledge I stopped all medications cold turkey.
